The *Granite Falls Historical Society* is going to host a *book reading at
the Museum on Sunday, March 14th at 2:00 pm. *The book is titled *"Margaret
Callahan, Mother of Northwest Art".*

The book is a compilation of Margaret's writing, compiled and edited by her
son Tobey Callahan. Margaret was married to Kenneth Callahan, one of the
big four of Northwest painting. She and Kenneth discovered the Robe Valley
in the early 1930's. Until her death in 1961, they maintained a cabin there
as well as a home in Seattle. Kenneth had a studio at Robe where much of
his painting was done. Margaret wrote of their love for the area as well as
recording her thoughts and observations of Seattle society. She spent her
early years working as a journalist for the Town Crier, a Seattle
newspaper. The book is a compelling read as well as an interesting history
of the Robe Valley and Mountain Loop Highway.
The book will be on sale at the Museum reading. There is no charge for
the afternoon. A chocolate buffet will be available.
