There are so many worthy historic preservation projects going on it is hard
to keep track but here are more that are close by.

Here is a Link to article about the *Fratt Mansion in Everett in
Preservation Magazine*

Bowman Bay Picnic Shelter and the Ferry House on Ebey's Prairie* have been
selected as sites among the 25 finalists in this competition. To learn more
about these sites and more, as well as vote until May 12th at
www.partnersinpreservation.com
There is an open house and celebration at the Ferry House, Sunday
May 2from Noon-3pm with free food, music and a
rare guided tour.

*The Ferry House*
**Completed in 1859 by the brother of Isaac Ebey, the first white settler of
Whidbey Island, Ferry House embodies the typical Greek Revival architecture
of early Pacific Northwest settlement. Modern utilities have never been
added, making the Ferry House a unique time capsule that provides
anauthentic glimpse into the region's early Territorial history.
*
*The house has remained essentially unaltered over the years, making it a
prime site for training and educational activities. Currently used as a
laboratory of learning for students of architecture and history, seismic
upgrades are needed to address weaknesses in its structural integrity that
limit its accessibility to the general public.

**Ebey's Landing and its buildings provide the general public an authentic
step back in time, while serving as a living classroom environment for
students of history and preservation. As the Reserve’s oldest building, the
Ferry House is an irreplaceable cornerstone and learning resource for the
community and its visitors. Restoring the Ferry House will allow increased
public access to this hidden gem, exemplifying the importance of remembering
America’s rural heritage while embracing a modern future.

*Bowman Bay*
The Bowman Bay Kitchen Shelter is emblematic of Civilian Conservation Corps
projects throughout Washington State Parks. This work relief program, which
dedicated energies to conservation and natural resource development from
1933 to 1942, was integral to Depression-era recovery in the Pacific
Northwest. Deception Pass State Park contains the most extensive and most
intact collections of CCC construction in Washington, and the Bowman Bay
Kitchen Shelter is widely recognized as one of the best designs. The style
and open plan of the shelter embody the rustic ideal of utilizing native and
natural materials in harmony with the surrounding environment.

**The Bowman Bay Kitchen Shelter is open daily to park visitors and can be
reserved for events. Located in a frequently visited portion of the park,
the Kitchen Shelter is well used by visitors from the nearby campground and
is able to maintain a close link with its past through the CCC Interpretive
Center built in the same area. The shelter will be restored using original
drawings as a guide and the project will address decay and restore
structural integrity while maintaining the historic fabric of the building.

**The Bowman Bay Kitchen Shelter is an iconic CCC building in Deception Pass
State Park that demonstrates the organic style CCC workers incorporated into
their projects. The Kitchen Shelter is functional, beautiful and
historically significant, proving that even the most practical of buildings
can tell a compelling story. Preservation of the Bowman Bay Kitchen Shelter
will ensure continued public enjoyment of this historic building and
maintain a tangible link to CCC history in the park.
