Record 1990 flood discussed at Sept. 15 Monroe Historical Society meeting

The Monroe Historical Society invites the community to its quarterly
meeting Thursday, Sept. 15 at the Monroe Fire Department on Village
Way. Monroe resident Dale Reiner will present historical information
about flooding in Monroe and the surrounding areas with special
emphasis on the record 1990 Thanksgiving flood. Local farmers affected
by recent floods, including the Frohning family from the Tualco
Valley, will share dramatic stories of trying to save their homes and
livestock from rising flood waters. Snohomish County is the second
most flood-prone county in Washington.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. with refreshments followed by the
presentation at 7 p.m. An open-mic session will allow guests to share
their own experiences of flooding in Monroe after the presentation. A
$5 donation is suggested.

The Monroe Fire Department is located at 163 Village Court off Village
Way across from the Monroe Public Library. All ages are welcome. For
more information, contact the Monroe Historical Society at
