The Monroe Historical Society invites the community to its annual
membership meeting Thursday, March 15 at the Tualco Grange outside of
Monroe. Monroe Historical Society Board Member Guy Faussett will present a
program on his great-grandfather, 1920s Monroe daredevil and stuntman Al
Faussett.

Faussett was the Evil Knievel of his time, braving waterfalls throughout
the Pacific Northwest in his innovative cigar-shaped canoes and making
headlines for his outrageous and courageous feats. His whitewater stunts
were filmed by movie studios and drew thousands of spectators along the
banks of local rivers. Faussett’s 1928 plunge over 177-foot South Falls in
a canvas canoe is commemorated each year in Oregon as Al Faussett Days at
Silver Falls State Park.

Guy Faussett will show a DVD showing some of Al’s exciting stunts and share
stories about his famous relative. Photos, news clippings and other
memorabilia will be available for viewing. To learn more about Al Faussett,
visit www.historylink.org or www.wetdawg.com.

Before the presentation the Monroe Historical Society will elect officers
and new trustees. A potluck dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by the
presentation. The Tualco Grange is located at 18933 Tualco Road. Please
bring a dish to share. All ages are welcome.
