Nordic American Voices Oral History Initiative Program

Gordon Strand and Mari-Ann Kind Jackson of the Nordic Heritage Museum
<http://www.nordicmuseum.org/education.aspx>will share their experience on
the amazing effort to collect, preserve, and share the life histories of
Nordic immigrants and their descendants in the Pacific NW.  Many Puget
Sound residents have been interviewed for this project and it can be used
as a model for creating a similar program in your organization. 9 am.

profit heritage groups  - Sven Mogelgaard's extensive experience helping
businesses with their technology makes him uniquely qualified to help us
understand the ins-n-outs of  accepting payments in our organizations. Are

your website? He will discuss payment issues (like plastic vs cash vs
checks), traditional and alternative merchant services, PayPal, Square,

Archeology in Snohomish County
Crilly Ritz, Snohomish County Public Works and Jason Cooper, Archaeologist,
AMEC, will provide a case study of the processes involved in archeological
data recovery excavations at two sites near Granite Falls, Washington.
During the winter of 2008-2009, AMEC Environment & Infrastructure, Inc.
(AMEC) conducted data recovery excavations at two archaeological sites near
Granite Falls, Washington for Snohomish County as part of project Section
106 requirements associated with constructing a federally funded alternate
route project around Granite Falls. As part of the project’s Section 106
NHPA consultation, it was determined that construction would adversely
impact two National Register eligible sites. This presentation provides a
case study that will introduce the project by detailing the site’s history
followed with a discussion on AMEC’s methods for conducting the data
recovery excavations and present the results of the findings.  9 am

Introduction to Basic Paper Conservation
Emily Pellichero http://conservationstudioseattle.com   This workshop is an
introduction to the basic procedures of paper conservation so we can have a
better idea of how to preserve the works of art and archival documents on
paper that can become damaged with time. Techniques conservators employ to
deal with these types of damage will be described.  You may bring an
example (documents, birth certificates, art, posters, etc) for advisory
information about how to handle.  10 a.m.

Historic Preservation Basics, pt 1 and 2
Presenters Michael Houser and Nicholas Vann of the Dept of Archaeology and
Historic Preservation <http://www.dahp.wa.gov/> will explain why and how to
preserve historic places, what are character-defining features of
structures and how to best preserve them. Part 2 includes tours of the D.
O. Pearson House and its historic style along with other surrounding in the
area - time and weather permitting.  Important for anyone including local
governments trying to preserve historic structures.  10 am and 11 a.m.


Geocaching - Hidden Treasures at Historic Places
Tina Dinzl-Pederson – Interpretive Specialist, Cama Beach State

An outdoor treasure hunt using a smartphone or GPS.  Geocachers try to
locate hidden containers, called geocaches, and can then share their
experiences online. This combination of technology and place is an
opportunity to share historic photos and sites, online and with a physical
location providing fun, educational family outings.  11 a.m.


Digitization Projects the Washington State Library.
Evan Robb and Shawn Schollmeyer from the Washington State Library (WSL)
will discuss two major digitization projects that enable historians,
genealogists and other researchers to find previously inaccessible
