If you have not been to one of the cultural collections disaster prep
workshops, they are continuing to be available - The League continues to
promote this because it is a great program for new board members to learn
the problems and need to plan for preventing collection damage.
They are free and sponsored with grants to prevent losses and high costs of
restoration of damaged objects, paper works and artifacts from floods,
fire/sprinkler damage, earthquake, etc..

 Scenario Planning & Collaboration Among Heritage Institutions to Improve
Disaster Preparedness for Collections
Okay, now you have a disaster response plan, but do you know how well it
will work in a real disaster situation? It's better to find answers now
than after a disaster has occurred!
* Help you assess your vulnerabilities.
* Test your plan using a scenario table to exercise.
* Explore how collaborations can help you respond to a disaster.
* Build a shared vision for regional disaster preparedness.
Who should attend:
When possible, send 2-3 participants from your library/archive to work
together on disaster preparedness activities:
* Staff member(s) responsible for emergency preparedness.
* Administrator and/or manager responsible for the building/collection.
* Key members of the emergency/disaster team responsible for
decision-making.
Requirements for attendance:
* A written disaster plan (draft okay) that includes collections
response/recovery.
* A letter of institutional commitment to explore collaboration to optimize
preparedness.
* A completed 3-page vulnerability assessment (distributed 3 weeks before
workshop).

 The "Protecting Cultural Collections" workshops are presented in a
two-part sequence to produce the following outcomes for disaster
preparedness activities:
* Complete a disaster response & collection salvage plan by the end of Part
2
* Learn how to train staff to implement your plan effectively
* Set pre- and post-disaster action priorities for your collections
* Understand practical decision-making skills needed during an emergency
* Experience salvage procedures for a wide variety of materials including
books, documents, photos & objects.
