This summer after much work by volunteers, the Camano City Schoolhouse was designated a Washington State Historical Register site.  It is among the few pre-1920 schoolhouses still around in Washington State.   It survives as a well preserved, charming and useful community center for Camano Island residents outliving perhaps its builders wildest expectations.  See the article that appeared this summer in the Herald HeraldNet.com - Foundation working to preserve Camano City Schoolhouse
Thursday October 9th is its 2nd annual benefit breakfast giving us a chance to visit the historical Cama Beach State Park on Camano Island followed by a tour of the Camano Schoolhouse.

About Carol Triplett :  Carol Triplett has recently retired from her full time volunteer leadership position of the Friends of Camano Island Parks (after a full career as a teacher until 199?).  We wish to honor her historic contribution to Camano Island, Parks, Recreation, Trails and the establishment of better Parks in Island County.  Island County has minimal funding to support parks for a better quality of life here.  Her volunteer second career and work for the last 20 years has helped direct and develop better parks, trails and access to waterways, trails and better recreation opportunities in our Camano Island backyard.   We humbly honor her superbly coordinated work on behalf of preservation and acquisitions of parks and public access to shorelines. Also, It was not enough for her to organize and plan for weekly trail building projects she also always recognized the historic aspect of properties purchased or designated as parks specifically the Camano Island State Park 50th Anniversary celebration, support of historic preservation activities on Cama Beach State Park, procurement of funding for historic and environmental interpretation of the English Boom Shoreline Park, and Center of Wooden Boats projects were among her many accomplishments and collaborations.
