FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Skagit Topic Presentation
Jesse Kennedy, PhD
Executive Director of SCHM
“Lucinda Davis”
April 10th 2 to 4 PM

La Conner – Jesse Kennedy will share stories of the life and times of
Lucinda J. Davis, a single mother who raised her three children and
operated a roadhouse on Cedar Bar near the mouth of Stetattle Creek near
what is now Diablo at the turn of the 19th century. Lucinda’s roadhouse
was located such that virtually all miners, trappers, hunters and explorers
traveling to and from the Wilderness of the North Cascade Mountains passed
by and could get a clean bed and sustenance for the mind, spirit, and body.

Burned out of her cabin, the family rebuilt. Caught in a flood that took
their home and most of their possessions, Lucinda persevered, providing a
glimpse into the character and strength characteristic of pioneer women in
the face of adversity.
Come here the stories of this ‘Valley Girl’!

Our Featured exhibit – “Secrets of the Mount Vernon Culture” continues
through May 15th. Our special exhibit – “Valley Girls” runs through June
20th! Come celebrate Skagit History!

The Museum is located at 501 S. 4th Street, at the top of the hill in La
Conner. Admission: Adults $5, Seniors $4, Families $10. For more
