O Canada! Heritage Weekend and Genealogy Seminar, April 21-23:

The Skagit Valley Genealogical Society invites you to connect with your
Canadian and Pacific NW cousins and fellow genealogists in a celebration of
Canada's 150th Anniversary of Confederation.
Festivities begin Friday, April 21, 7 - 9pm at the Burlington Senior
Center, 1011 Greenleaf, Ave. Burlington, WA with a reception and keynote
address.
Celtic musicians and singers Eric and Sally Bowen will perform traditional
Celtic ballads during the reception.

Our keynote speaker is Canadian genealogist, journalist and historian Dave
Obee, from Victoria, B.C. Canada. Dave's keynote address is: Between
Friends: Cousins Across the Border.

On Saturday, April 22, 8:00-4:30pm is the Canadian themed genealogy seminar
at the 1st United Methodist Church, 1607 E. Division St., Mount Vernon, WA.
Dave Obee returns, accompanied by U.S. genealogy expert, Mary Kathryn Kozy.
Through four classes Dave and Mary Kathryn will cover the subjects of
Canadian censuses, immigration to Canada, U.S immigration, and using
time-lines to historically trace your ancestors.

But wait, the weekend continues, on Sunday, April 23, 10am-Noon, Burlington
Visitors Center, 520 E. Fairhaven Ave., Burlington, with a living history
tour of historic downtown Burlington.
A costumed interpreter will be your guide as you learn more about the
settling of Burlington and several Canadians involved with those early
days.

The Friday evening reception and the history tour on Sunday are free and
included with the seminar registration. O Canada!
